A Community Day Built Around Youth, Service, Connection, and the Power of Showing Up
There are moments when a community needs more than another event. It needs people willing to show up. On Friday, September 11, 2026, Project Friend will bring volunteers, businesses, artists, educators, nonprofits, and community leaders together at the Zone 6 Teen Center in Highland Park, New Jersey, for its inaugural Project Friend Community Day. But this day is about much more than gathering in one location.It's about beginning a movement.
Leadership Begins With Service
At the heart of Project Friend is a simple belief: Leadership begins with service.The initiative was created around the idea that every act of kindness can strengthen a community—and that volunteering isn't simply about giving your time. It's about discovering your ability to make a difference. This year's Community Day carries an even deeper purpose because it serves as Part II of Project Friend's Back-to-School Initiative. The goal is to serve up to 200 teenagers by providing backpacks, school supplies, encouragement, mentorship, and positive community engagement as young people prepare to begin a new school year.For a young person, a backpack may seem like a simple thing.But sometimes a simple gesture sends a much bigger message:You matter.Your future matters.Your community is behind you.
More Than a Back-to-School Drive
Throughout the day, the community will come together through service activities, mentorship opportunities, family-friendly programming, and youth-focused engagement.And the day won't end when the volunteer work is finished.Project Friend will close the celebration with an Appreciation Dinner featuring live entertainment, artist performances, community recognition, awards, and a celebration of the people who helped make the day possible.That's important because Project Friend isn't only asking:"What can we give?"It's also asking:"How can we build relationships?"Businesses can participate.Artists can participate.Parents can participate.Community leaders can participate.Young people can participate.And everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Building Something That Lasts
The vision doesn't stop in Highland Park. Project Friend is being developed as a recurring community movement with the goal of expanding into surrounding cities and creating lasting partnerships throughout the region. That's where this initiative becomes bigger than September 11. The first event is the beginning. The relationships created through it can become the foundation for future volunteer projects, mentorship opportunities, community programs, business partnerships, youth initiatives, and other acts of service.That's how movements are built.One person shows up. Then another.Then a business.Then an artist.Then a community leader. Eventually, what started as an idea becomes a culture.
An Invitation to Businesses and Community Leaders
Project Friend is inviting organizations to become Founding Community Sponsors.The sponsorship opportunities range from $99 for a Silver sponsorship to $1,000 for the Platinum Presenting Sponsorship, with sponsor recognition incorporated throughout the event and promotional campaign.But the real value isn't simply logo placement.It's being able to say:We were there when this started.A sponsorship helps support the Back-to-School Initiative, youth engagement, volunteerism, community recognition, and the development of a sustainable culture centered around service, leadership, and collaboration.
