The Sugarhill Gang on music Walk Of Fame honour: It’s a an awesome experience

The Sugarhill Gang, renowned pioneers of hip-hop and best known for their iconic track “Rapper’s Delight,” expressed their exhilaration at being inducted into the Music Walk Of Fame located in Camden. Their induction, along with that of ten other artists, involves the placement of commemorative stones along the Camden-based trail from September 4 to 9, recognizing their profound contributions to the world of music.

Celebrating Contributions This induction into the Music Walk Of Fame honors not only The Sugarhill Gang but also other distinguished individuals such as Ali Campbell of UB40 fame, Gordon “Mac” McNamee, the founder of Kiss FM, and the late singer-songwriter Janis Joplin. The celebration is not just about recognizing musical achievements but also commemorating 50 years of hip-hop, a genre that has left an indelible mark on the music industry. 

Overwhelming Gratitude Master Gee, one of the founding members of The Sugarhill Gang, expressed his amazement at the turn of events, stating that he could hardly believe the honor bestowed upon them. Reflecting on his humble beginnings in Englewood, New Jersey, where they recorded “Rapper’s Delight” at the age of 17, he marveled at the fact that he now found himself in Camden Town, London, being honored by the entire city for their musical contributions. 

Acknowledging Legacy Hendogg, another member of the group, appreciated the recognition while still being alive to witness it. He described it as receiving one’s accolades while still being in the land of the living, a truly beautiful experience. 

The Impact of Sylvia Robinson During their appearance on stage, The Sugarhill Gang paid tribute to the late Sylvia Robinson, acknowledging her pivotal role in taking their music and transforming it into a record. They hailed her as the queen of hip-hop, highlighting her influence on their journey
