Young Kentucky artist recently wins at the legendary Apollo Theater with anti-gun violence song.
Heavenleigh Hymon, aka Star Bookie, has been rapping and recording from the early age of 4. She’s the daughter of famed Memphis rapper Conan, who is best known for his songs, “Hold On” featuring late rapper SnootieWild, “GoGo” with Future and “Letter to Boosie” which he won many awards and took him all the way to the BET awards.
Bookie is already proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. In the summer of 2022, at ten years old, she shocked the local Lexington hip hop scene with her debut performance at the Unity Fest. A showcase bringing awareness to gun violence and it’s victims. She quickly became a force to be reckoned with and was sought to perform at some of the most historical and prestigious venues in Lexington. Namely the Roots and Heritage festival and the legendary Lyric theater where she received a standing ovation after performing her nationally recognized song “Put the Guns Down”. A song created to bring awareness to gun violence and to inspire the next generation to simply PUT THE GUNS DOWN. After the release of her song, data has shown that gun violence decreased by 29% in the greater Lexington metropolitan area and has remained at its lowest since 2009. Also, after the release she’s been asked to perform at several stop the violence rallies including performing at the State Capitol in Frankfort Ky.
